I interested to hear from academics how can we evaluate Professors performance in the long run? I would like to find from academics any comments, suggestions, opinions, points of view, or critics.
Very good question because there is no clear answer.
In my institution where I used to teach for 25 years, there is no fair system of evaluating professors and the existing system is pathetically corrupt. The so-called "awarded" the excellency in teaching are the ones who are the worst in teaching, but happen to be friends with the Dean at the time. At one time the "emeritus" professors used to be the excellent ones to be remembered, in recent years are the ones who have been simply the worst, but pushed themselves through the system by illegal means.
A better system to merit the professors would be "just ask the students' or whom the students remember most favourably after many years have lapsed.
My son had gone through the same department that I joined a few years later. He told me which professors he favoured and which ones he didn't and for what reason. I had come to the same conclusion as he did, although I didn't know the reasons - but he did.
