There are many human-specific diagnostic kits to assay serum protein or peptide hormones. They worked based on antibody-antigen reaction. Some of them work well for non-human samples. In fact, you may run a test with human kit on non-human samples. The apparatus (micro plate reader, nephlometr and ...) may give you a result (absorbance, value and ...). How can we ensure the data is true, when we have no standard material? Indeed, if standard materials are available, there is no need to use human kit for non-human samples. But, protein and peptide hormones' structure is not available for all species, if any, production of these material as standard is not commercially common and inexpensive.
