Education, by definition, is the promotion of a point-of-view. Wisdom by contrast is knowing how to obtain the right outcome irrespective of views. Doesn't the existential need of any hour, wisdom and not mere knowledge?
Absolutely! Knowledge (facts and concepts) are only of benefit to society when applied with wisdom . . . and compassion. Nuclear power can, for example, be used to supply electricity hospitals . . . or to go into bombs.
So I would agree that it is essential to develop and enable wisdom alongside objective knowledge. I'm thus encouraged by the recent interest in and engagement with mindfulness, contemplative and reflective practices, both in business and academia.
Wisdom of Solomon ( application of knowledge to ensure an out come) is what is valued in the societal-governance. Wisdom of Jesus ( application of faith instead of knowledge to achieve peace ) might bring about societal-harmony with out an external governance mechanism. What other forms of wisdom might provide for the diverse needs of humanities?
