The subject operation research(OR) clearly illustrate the optimization theory. There are numerous agricultural Applications such as yield, productivity and etc. so which are the agricultural fields that OR can be applied and how can it be applied?
Operations Research in Agriculture: Better Decisions for a Scarce and Uncertain World
Operations Research / Management Science (OR/MS) can be described as the discipline of applying advanced analytical methods to help making better decisions and has been around in the agricultural and forestry management sectors since the fifties, approaching decision problems that range from more strategic sector- level planning to farm operation issues and integrated supply chain management. In this paper insights are given on the use of OR/MS in agriculture, illustrating them with cases drawn from the literature on this topic while keeping the descriptions accessible to uninitiated readers. The presence of OR/MS in Agriculture and Forest Management applications is already extensive but the potential for development is huge in times where resources are becoming increasingly scarce and more has to be done with less, in a sustainable way.
To my understanding Operations Research is for optimization of processes or a set of constraints. Operations Research has been applied to Agricultural processes and constraints already, where it can be used to optimize crop yields, use of resources, and managing constraints.
Operations research can be applied in any field as it is called decision science. For example, Bayes theorem can be applied in where to cultivate research and different probability related decision. AHP, ANP can be applied for which vield to be chosen.
Thanks my colleagues, we are trying to get optimum yield with considering the factors of cost of cultivation such as weeding, planting materials, labour, pest and disease management etc by application of different models through operation research. However, field research is also needed to confirm the feasibility of the model in farmer land weather the model run successfully. it is very informative discussion to safeguard the farmer and better to give the optimal solution for them.
