It has been observed that university students hardly read books beyond their course books. It is imperative to engage them in reading books beyond the recommended course content. Your suggestions in this regard will be helpful.

Hello, I am a research scholar, so technically a student. What I have realised all these many years is when a literature or an aspect is given a fictional or a reality based corollary, it makes more interesting.
Let me elaborate like for an acculturation literature to be read or for students to approach such an understanding maybe an example of Kurds can be made to understand, a short snippet or a familiar story you might have come across newspaper. This relevance and correlation based understanding will help students to look at a perspective which in very short span of time will help them access literature more.

Good morning everybody. I think that the best way to improve students to read scientific papers is to push them to valorise their work first, and publish their results in a second time. They must integrate fully the mantra "to publish or perish".
Inspire them, tell them the story of successful people that came from good habit such as consistency reading. In class, reading can be teach but we can add some reward to motivate them.
Enhance the course content by add in the requirement of reviewing article, journal, or scientific research, than ask the students to present the output, compare and express their understanding towards the finding (readings). You may also perform (a) case study assignment, whether they like it or not, they must read in order to understand the case. It is a force pattern but this may encourage them to search and reads and finally make it as portion (%) in the formative course assessment to value them.
Developing reading habits among students is an important goal for university teachers, as it can improve their academic performance and help them develop critical thinking skills.
Here are some strategies that can be used to encourage reading habits among students:
1. Assign relevant and interesting materials : Teachers can assign
Engage them in case study assignments and allow individual presentation(s) and comments from class and possibly structured assessment test on same, this will stimulate reading of other materials.
Moreso,journals, publications and articles should be referred to for them to read in groups and individuals for presentations and assessments.
I implement as a strategy the publications of social networks (Facebook, twitter, tik tok, instagram, etc.) on the subject to be discussed and from there encourage the search for information about who publishes, comments, and then do a search on the subject in sources official, reliable to initiate discussion and reflection, finally we compile definitions
