Gardon gauge working range is small and the heat flux calculated theoretically is up to 4000 kW/m2. This gardon gauge is supplied by hukseflux.
The flux in the target plane up to 10's of thousands of suns concentration has been mapped with the following procedure. Obtain a water cooled ceramic target that is large enough and can survive the highest flux’s that will be investigated. Use a digital camera that has a wide dynamic range to look at the target. Compare the quantitative pixel by pixel values with the image obtained at much lower flux levels where the irradiance in the test plane can be directly measured and is uniform like at 1 sun 5 degree field of view. The uncertainty is limited by the camera accuracy and the assumption that the target reflectance is independent of flux.
