In microbial fuel cells (MFC), the voltage output of the system depends on the amount of electrons generated by the microorganism during metabolism. However, only a small portion of these electrons can be harnessed for electricity generation while the remaining is used in synthesis of chemical energy (ATP) for the survival and reproduction of the organism. Therefore, how can the electron pool for electricity generation be enhanced physiologically without effect (s) on the survival of the organism in question ?

There are a lot of operating factors (Applied voltage or/and potentials, S.A. of electrodes, types of electrodes, pH, temperature, Alkalinity) could affect the activity of the microbial community which in turn affect the amount of the generated electrons. so, I think that you can try to change these factors and study the amount of the generated electrons.
