It can be claimed that the emergence of a better world in many ways is connected to our ability to understand the situation of other people. How can teachers facilitate this development of empathy?
Empathy isn't necessarily something teachers should generally teach, it's up to the parents to teach their children such skills/emotional states. I would say that giving teachers the responsibility to teach students empathy verges on indoctrination, since every teacher will have a different view on empathy and related emotional states. For example, you wouldn't want teachers to teach students what's ethically or culturally right and wrong based on their own (potentially deluded or subjective) view of reality, unless the teacher is educated and employed within that specific aspect.
Carl Alexander Frisk Andrew Paul McKenzie Pegman George Herbert Mead claimed that social interaction that challenged the participants (children in this case), to put oneself in the position of others, could faciltat the development of empathy in some sence. He promoted team sports as one such example. Questions like; «If you were in her shoes, what would you wish for to happen?»; I would hope could some development. I have a concern that schools underestimate this possibility.
I think that the stimulus of discussion using the "if you put yoursef into your coleague shoes" is very supportive and don't force subjective or the teachers own perspective to the students. I also think that is one of the teacher responsability to stimulate the students to think about social impacts of their own activities. The key element will be maintain a friendly and safe environment that encourages the students to think and talk about their perspectives, once that right or wrong are out of the scope here.
In my opinion, always, not now in current circumstances, teachers and professors have to work continuously to development emphaty in students, it doesn’t care what kind os students children or postgraduate professional. We are to be serious, energetic, friendly and instructive all at the same time, give the best of us
