I want to functionalise the surface of silica particles with various silanes. After sizing them (e.g. using tri-functional amino silane in aqueous methanol solution) the particles were washed and then dried. When the particles were dried, they appeared to have essentially stuck together to form a loose solid which is hard to mix with DGEBA resin. Does anyone have any suggestions of how to prevent the particles from agglomerating/binding, but in a manner that won't negatively affect subsequent adhesion to resin? Or any suggestions for a surfactant that can be added to the microspheres while they're in solution that would help in this? Any suggestions for papers which might prove a good starting point for looking at this would be appreciated.
