My college is offering greater flexibility to students via a HyFlex course model. Unfortunately, this is challenging for those using MS Excel during secure exams. For my courses, students need functionality such as the finance functions and goal seek. I have attempted the text publisher's platform CONNECT with Proctorio monitoring, my university learning management system D2L (Brightspace) with Respondus Lockdown browser, and via TopHat. I ran into the following obstacles:

a) The McGraw Hill CONNECT platform has the Proctorio system which appears to be easily defeated. I had a student simply cover up the camera during an exam and no flag was generated. The CONNECT & Proctorio folks were not able to resolve this issue.

b) The Respondus Lockdown Browser spreadsheet has limited functionality so does not have all features needed for a finance exam.

c) The TopHat folks also provide an online spreadsheet but without the functionality of MS Excel.

How have others found a robust means to provide students with MS Excel access during online exams?
