How can one calculate the associative Pr when there are three response choices during associative recognition (intact, rearranged, and new pairs)? Is it right to subtract the false alarm rate of rearranged pairs from the hit rate of the intact pairs?
I think it depends on what you wish to conclude from your analysis - if you're looking for the associative Pr, makes sense to subtract FA for rearranged pairs. If you want the "item" Pr, I'd go for FAs for new.
Thank you very much, Roni, one reviewer said this kind of calculation--hit rate minus false alarm rate based on Snodgrass & Corwin (1988)-- was not appropriate, because the formula provided by Snodgrass & Corwin (1988) is based on two response alternatives rather than three in associative memory tasks.
