Some semiconducting nanoparticles (titanium oxide, for example) are fotocatalyst and degrade organic matter. In some countries, residual drugs and antibiotics are found in irrigation water, these organic componds are not removed by traditional water treatments. Semiconducting nanoparticles can be use to avoid these organic compunds whic could be absorbed by leafs. One advantage of thes fotocatalists is that the energy to activate the degradation can be obtained from sunlight.
Nanotechnology can be used for better water purification that holds great promise in remediation, desalination, filtration, purification and water treatment. Nanomaterials or nanoparticles are used in water treatment processes.
The main features that make nanoparticles effective for water treatment are more surface area, small volume and materials may change electrical, optical, physical, chemical, or biological properties at the nano level
