I prepared nanostructured TiO2 films. After irradiation with Ti+ ions photoluminescence provide a broad signal in the visible range but with twice weak intensity co,pared of non irradiated one. can one please help me to explain this. thanks.
Irradiation with the ions may cause quenching in intensity due to reactions of the photons or the generated charge carriers with the ions trapped in the structure or their electrical fields. These reactions are in competition with the photoluminescence affect. This can also explain the change in a broader spectrum as the electrical field of the ions affects the absorption spectra by changing the band gap and adding additional levels inside the band gap.
