How can I work step by step with HWSD data till its operational in SWAT?

I am working in SWAT12 in ArcMap 10.0. I have soils data from (HWSD) database. Anyone with Video/Tutorial/Written procedures how to work with HWSD till it is a the stage it can works in SWAT in HRU defn?(Landuse/Soils/Slope Definition step). My project is in Usangu catchment in Tanzania

Sorry, can you tell me about HWSD soil data, does it have percentage texture and organic carbon content? If so there are tools to prepare SWAT soil database.

I know that Karim Abbaspour from EAWAG in Zurich, Switzerland, and Raghavan Srinivasan from Texas A & M in College Station are working on very large-scale SWAT models. You will find their addresses in the web. If not, I can help, They might already have a solution - ask them.

I tried to go through another website http://www.waterbase.org/download_data.html where i found also global soils from FAO. I dowloaded Africa Soils and i found that the attribute table is very similar to the "usersoil" database in MWSWAT12. So i used this very soils with no modification. I also found out that i could copy the "usersoil" contents from MWSAT12 to 'usersoil" file in SWAT12(of arcSWAT) which was previously empty.

When i did this the HRU Definition step was successfully completed.

I will be glad if you can first introduce me to Karim Abbaspour from EAWAG in Zurich, Switzerland, and Raghavan Srinivasan from Texas A & M because i still have a long way to go with my SWAT project. Thank you.

Hello guys,

I try also to work with hwsd soil. A colleague explained to me that I can just search for the hwsd soil number into the SSURGO table and than I have to import the information to the usersoil file. I`m now a bit confused because I can not find any similary approach. Im also thankful for other methods.

I have created the soil user file and now working of LULC file. I have done almost all only remaining are following:

Townland and

Ruralland

Both belongs to urban landcover, so its code must come from Urban database and accordingly code ID will be assigned in the user define Land-use text file. AM I right?

Secondly, Desert, Dryland and Plaindryland I am still struggling how to replace them from the land cover closest category.

Could you please guide me how to fix these problems.

Hello everyone, I hope you all got answers to your question from 2 years ago. I am also very new to SWAT and will like to know how you managed to use the soil database to define the HRU. I am currently working on the SWAT model using the

FAO Soil and Terrain Database of East Africa (SOTER). Any step by step guides will be very appreciated. I have tried following youtube video, however, they are not done in Africa and we have different soil databases.
