I want to study photochemical water splitting as my PhD project. Who can help me to choose a novel semiconductor and study the effect of doping, surface modification, and cocatalysts on it's application?
You have chosen an excellent topic, however effect of doping to create novel semiconductor material or its surface modification by Photoactive materials is a vast area to pursue Phd on. Doping as a strategy to generate materials with altered electronic properties requires background knowledge on Materials Science or to be specific materials physics. On the other hand surface modification by redox photoactive complexes (or organic dyes) requires a thorough knowledge on materials chemistry, coordination chemistry, electron transfer dynamics. Prof. M. Graetzl of EPFL, Dr. Amitava Das (NCL, India), Dr. Hiren Ghosh (BARC, India), Prof. M. D. Ward, Dr. F. Raymo (University of Miami), Dr. Arie Zaban (Bar-Ilan university) can help you.
University of California is doing excellent work in this field, and students came up with novel photocalatystic materials ans nano materials. This and other
