I try to simulate 3cm of an optical fiber with optiwave-optiFDTD8 software but I have a problem - a lot of losses in 3cm fiber.
these are my simulation parameters :
core : Rx=Ry=31.25 um & n=1.62
clad : Rx=Ry=62.5 um & n=1.52
source : a vertical input plane wave with 1310nm continuous wave and 50um distance from fiber.
I insert two observation points on the start and end of the fiber and their signals are different.
Giving an educated guess - as I don't know the software - would be you did not define the material correctly.

Generally optical fibers are made of two layers. I would hazzard to guess that if you have not created an optical fiber geometry with this configuration (and the appropriate material properties), that this might be the problem. However, I am also not familiar with the particular software that you mentioned, so this is simply my own guess.
