Scott J. Valentine , thanks for your answer . I am interested in Soil movement and displacement results from vehicles or induced vibration . Can you or anyone suggest a reference ( book) for me .
This problem comes up frequently in compaction and displacement studies around railways. The usual setup is to combine seismometers, accelerometers, and acoustic systems at various depths. I'm not sure what would qualify as "simple" for you, but depending on what exactly you're characterizing, you could get away with a simple acoustic setup to measure frequency and amplitude, and build a model related to soil type around the area of interest.
This would require multiple data channels and careful measurement of the soil characteristics for comparison, but should give you reasonably good ideas about propagation and energy density through the substrates.
What in particular are you interested in discovering? Total energy transmission, soil movement and displacement, acoustic transmission, noise mitigation...?
