I have to check the hepatoprotective activity of leaves of some plants. I have carried the extraction using soxhlet apparatus by using different solvents. I observed that in chloroform extract, the maximum chlorophyll has been drained out. Please help, how can this chlorophyll be removed from the chloroform extract of the leaf?
You can fractionate the CHCl3 extract using a chromatographic column. Start from hexane or pretoleum ether and increase the polarity adding chloroform. The first fractions should contain the clorophylls.
Passing your extract through charcoal may remove some chlorophyll but you may also loose some of the phytochemical constituents.

After extraction, chlorophyll can be removed, by passing the extract through a column made up of CaCO3.
