Optical images of cross-section of heat treated (550°C for 1 hr) Al sheet are attached. There are black dots appeared throughout the cross-section. I also tried with other sample but these black dots not removed. For cloth polishing i had used 0.3 micron Alumina abrasive particle solution with distilled water.
Did you ultrasonicate the samples in isopropyl alcohol after polishing? Then dry well using a hair-dryer.
After polishing i swabbed the sample by wet cotton and dried by hair-dryer.

Could you please give more details about the material (whether it is pure Al or any Al alloy) and processing details?. If it is etched, then there is a possibility to have the etch pits. And try using Colloidal Silica instead of Alumina. Clean it by ultrasonication in DI water first and then methanol/ethanol and dry well.
