Is there an easy way (other than going through all dental journals) to find hot topics/ recent trends of research in my specialty?

of course I know Pubmed, I was asking about how to know the latest topics in pediatric dentistry published in pubmed, for example.
ISI and Scopus indexed journals contain high quality peer-reviewed and highly cited publications.
Check Dental Abstracts as well as the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
you have to read the most recent articles and continuous education even on you tube
Either you connect to the most important journals in your field through rss feed, or to search for systematic reviews in your field, they are excellent source for newer topics.
search your topics in the related articles and then you can draw the protocol for your research. best wishes
