OAS-POSS-NH2 (OAS) can be obtained in a two steps.
Fist: hydrolytic condensation using commercially available (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (APTES) and appropriate amount (relative to APTES) of hydrochloric HCl (3.6 eq), trifluoromethanesulfonic CF3SO3H (1.5 eq), or trifluoroacetic CF3COOH (1.5 eq).
Second: neutralization earlier obtained salt by Amberlite resin (base form).
It is worth noting here, that the synthesis of OAS and its derivatives forces strictly anhydrous conditions. Otherwise, in such a condition the formation of open cage-like. for more details see (paper with experimental):
