I want to measure faraday rotation of YIG thin film. I used two polarizers and a photoelastic modulator and a photodetector that are connected to a lock-in amplifier. So I have light intensity changes as DC voltage. But I can't calculate faraday rotation from voltage. I used Malus' law and the result was much (about 1000 times) higher than what's reported in papers. Can anyone help me to find the correct rotation?
Please have a deep careful look into your calculations;
you might have used wrong angle units (degree/radian/mrad) when applying the Malus' law.
Such a scaling 'mistake' (180/pi or pi/180) severely grows up due to the square of the cosine.
Your factor '1000' may also arise from a misinterpretation of mm and µm; your YIG sample is a thin film, the thickness of which is often given in µm. So please have a careful look on the use of the orders of magnitude of the units that are involved in your calculation.

You're right. The problem were caused by a mistake in thickness measuring.

Actually I put nanometer instead of micrometer in my calculations.
