I am fabricating coal briquettes of high-volatile, high-sulfur (7.5%) bituminous coal. I have found a silver colored and shiny agglomeration of char residue left behind after heating raw coal at 950 C during volatile analysis. Free swelling index of raw coal is 1.5, showing its only caking coal (not coking). During cold briquetting, I have used 16% hydrated lime, and 4-6 % bentonite clay along with 15% charcoal, 3% carbonized rice husk, 1% sodium nitrate salt, and 4 to 6 % water. During combustion of the dried briquettes, I have noted that only volatiles of the outer layer of briquettes have been combusted, and the inner portion of the pillow shaped briquettes remains uncombusted. I need a technical assistance for the complete combustion of the briquettes.
