My research topic is to explore the biogeograpgic patterns of species richness of insects. I have the regional richness data of all insects and different orders from many locations. It's well known that insects include c. 30 orders with different numbers of species and phylogenies. I want to group different insect orders into several groups, and make a clear description of their diversity patterns. The problem is in grouping different insect orders into several groups.

Ensifera, Caelifera, Blattodea, Dermaptera, Mantoteda form the group "Orthopteroid insects". Neuroptera, Raphidioptera, Mecoptera, Megaloptera form the group "Neuropteroid insects".
If you have any social wasps (Hymenoptera: Vespidae: Vespinae) I would be very happy to study them, identify, and keep in my collection. The same for scorpion-flies (Mecoptera).

As for me, it's could be different kinds of grouping. It's depends from aims of your project. If you're investigating a systematics aspects in distribution of insects then you should to use the above categories. If you're interesting in ecological features (e.g. habitats for insects) you can use the next categories, for example: aquatic insects, soil insects, dendrobionts, hortobionts, etc.
If you want to accent on trophic relations on this "phytophagous", "enemies" or "monophagous", "oligophagous", "polyphagous" groups are using.

Could you provide a bit more information regarding the aim of your project? Also what is the geographic area of your research? The goal of your investigation will determine the grouping of the orders (see Vladyslav's comment above), e.g., systematic or ecological. I will be glad to help you with any Formicidae, and possibly Evanioidea that you might have.

It really depends on your project aims. I'm a systematic entomologist. Are you working on ecosystem functions and diversity? If you can explain your questions in a bit more detail, we might have a discussion.
It depends how did you collect material? After I could advise something.
There are several statistical methods to classify your binary, presence/absence dataset into: 1) groups or elements consisting of insects/insect orders with similar distribution patterns, and 2) regions with unique insect assemblages.
