Dear researchers
does anybody working on simulating cutting using Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian formulation help me? I tried to simulate orthogonal cutting of OFHC copper, and every time the simulation runs well, the resulting chip compression ratio is too small (< 2 while it should be > 3) . I have tried to increase the initial chip thickness, but it has caused me excessive distorsion of the elements.
Any suggestion is welcome.

This is very difficult to say without knowing details of your model.
One important aspect are material parameters. Did you accoutn for hardening and thermal softening? In general, the chip compression being too small due to an error in the material description means that the shear angle is too large, which in turn means that in your FE model, there is less hardening than in reality.
second aspect are boundary conditions, especially on the "side".
Third aspect is mesh density.
Fourth is how you implement material separation.
If you post some details of your model (contour plots of temp and peeq are usually helpful), it will be easier to know what is going on.
