I can recommend you research the such problem insite Ukraine because the same problem has in its economy. The most part of the economy of Ukraine is in the shadow (about 60%) and recession. If you need the additional information, please, write me.
You can check WDI data or check the African data on the African Development Bank indicators series. Another option is to check out such data in the individual country's central bank website or other data provider, but make sure data are domiciled in the same currency (say, dollars)

I would like to digress from the recommendations so far given to you on how to derive indicators for macro level economic growth for Nigeria and Benin. All the recommendations are on how to get secondary data. I suggest you go for primary data in order to derive such indicators through composite measure. That is, you should come up with a research design that has to to do with specific concepts that are relevant to the subject matter. This would enable you to construct a data gathering instrument with which to obtain relevant information from the two locations of your research, in this case Nigeria and Benin Republic. Doing this will give an impression that you are coming up with additional information that could be contributory to the existing body of knowledge in that area of research. Mark you, the ready-made indicators you suggested to you by colleagues on this platform are actually produced by findings of earlier research carried out. You may , of course, combine both the existing indicators and the ones you derive from your own empirical inquiry.
