Can I use the below attached equation for that by substituting waist radius w0 by the radius of focused laser beam? Aim of my project is the analysis of a Laser boring machine(LASAG KLS 246) .Laser used is Nd Yag with peak power of 6KW. I calculated the beam waist diameter inside the resonator cavity as 3mm. Laser beam is focused to the worktable using a lens with focal length 100 mm and I calculated the diameter of focused laser beam as 28.55 micrometer. I am using a P30 sensor with a maximum allowable power density of 6 KW/cm2 for measuring the power output. If i place the sensor at focus point it will damage the sensor so I would place the sensor at a distance x from the focus point.Assume that I placed the sensor at a distance of 200 mm from the focus point, how can I calculate the diameter of the laser beam at that distance. If I get the diameter, I can calculate the area of beam and power density at that point.
