Mass molting is possible by inducing stress in the crustaceans. Usually the reduction in the water level and addition of fresh seawater will leads to mass molting in shrimp culture systems. Now a days it has been not recommended because of stress related viral infection. Some case the reduction in salinity using freshwater induce molting. The chemical BKC can also be tried.
Induction of molting can be done by application of low dose of formalin or using immunostimulant developed and commercialized by CIBA which has been reported by farmers in field trials
One way is to place cut leaves of Pappaya into the system, which has been found to induce molting in Lobsters in Indonesian system of cage culture of lobster. The same could work in case of shrimps. Though so far there are no reports for the same for shrimps, but worth a try on a small scale.
Actually you can´,t but you can maximize it with environment stress to get better growth (if you do no have disease in your area). Shrimp molt are moon phase regulated then you need to understand your shrimp pond and learn with them before make some procedure, mainly on feed consumption and feeding trays monitoring. Otherwise you will open the system for bacteria activity and make more problems for your culture.
For example, shrimp are leaving feed on the feeding trays and you will reduce the feed amount. That´s the right time do make some environment stress - water exchange, alcalinity shock, temperature, and so one. This procedure will give you a better massive response with molting in all shrimps.
But real positive results in your SGR shall be based in to many factors to ensure you massive molting:
1- feed management
2- larvae quality, variability size viruses absence (YHHNV, YHV, IMNV);
3- water quality

Fresh water top up will induce moulting, this i observed in early stages of shrimp as mysis and post larvae but in large scale in shrimp farms its may not be possible one. Moulting cycle in shrimp is a hormone based phenomenon and they need essential minerals to build their exoskeleton. For cholesterol systhesis and hormone secretion, Bile acids playing an important role, which is not systhesis by shrimp.
