I am studying on the total synthesis of kainic acid, and now I have gone to the final step which is to deprotection of PMB, I used TFA to do it followed by purification using cation ion exchanging resin chromatography and I can detect the targeting compound by TLC and LC-MS, however, I could not obtain the exact NMR spectrum. Do you have some advice for me, it will be very helpful to me.

I think in the near future I will try it. In fact I have tried CAN in the early stage of the synthesis, but it didn't work.
The material could be a zwitterion or TFA salt. The NMR may also change greatly with the solvent, concentration and the salt form. Try FNMR to see if a TFA salt is present.
Thank you for your answer. I have done the FNMR and confirmed that it is the TFA salt, and I plan to purify it by ion exchange resin.
