Been trying to dissolve WO3 to form solution phase from powder in order to incorporate as dopant in TiO2 nanoparticles through sol gel method for photocatalytic activity in visible region. Please advice on any other sources of precursors for fabrication of tungsten oxide as dopant in such matrix.
You may try tungsten (VI) isopropoxide with Ti-n-butoxide with some alcohol solvent and HCl as a catalyst.
Rememebr, you can not directly add WO3 in TiO2/alkoxide by sol-gel method as oxides do not dissolve in organic solvents.
Tungsten trioxide (WO3) can be dissolved in hot NH4OH (aq). It also dissolves in HF (aq) heated in autoclave.
Thanks for your answers. It helped a lot. I received tungsten Isopropoxide couple days ago and plan prepared the WO3 sol solution to incorporate into such titania sols. WO3 partially dissolved in HF in ambient/atmospheric condition. Didn't try with autoclave yet. Remarkably dissolved in hot ammonium hydroxide but if I mix together WO3-bes solution into HCl-catalysed titania sol solution, would it generated salt and water(by mix together acid and bes) and would it be significant effects on the nanoparticles in term of size etc?

I am using TUNGSTEN (VI) OXIDE (WO3) as a precursor for forming a coating. I tried to dissolve it in hot NH4OH solution (50 deg C) but it is not dissolving at all. Can you tell me what temperature I have to use to dissolve it completely? Thanks in advance for the help.

It should be diluted in ammonia. I used to prepare it(orthotungstic acid- the one with yellow powder) using ammonia conc. In the case of 25%, maybe you can start with dilute in NH4 conc first, then dilute to 25%. Adding water may relapse the solution back to solid/yellow rubbery state. You may choose organic solvent.

WO3 +2 NH4OH -> (NH4)2WO4 + H2O
0.1 M NH4OH, 5ml-> 5e-4 mol
WO3 -> 5e-4 mol x 0.5 x 231.8 g/mol-> 0.05795 g
