Keep in mind that the wet chemical etching method of AAO is also effect your nanowires. The chemicals (NaOH) can also etch the wires at the surface and as result un-smooth nanowires are obtained which sometime deteriorate the properties when used in devices.
Let me start by telling you that there are couple of ways to remove AAO, mainly wet methods, and that there are plenty of articles out there (Internet :) ) that say how it can be done and what people use to do it.
As a starter i have added you two links one is general study of wet etching of AAO using diferent etchants, from which you can get a heads up and see what can help you (http://ccsenet.org/journal/index.php/apr/article/view/4189) and the second is a specific example where they use NaOH in order to remove AAO (http://apl.aip.org/resource/1/applab/v94/i7/p073118_s1?view=fulltext&bypassSSO=1).
I must say that depends on what you want in detail and what your nanowires can afford. For example if you grow your nanowires on a substrate using the AAO as template then your wires might be attached on the substrate and dissolving AAO chemicaly would do the job fast and easy, on the other hand if you can not afford chemical wet etching of the AAO you must look for dry etching which is way more tricky/hard to do.
You should keep in mind that dissolution of AAO in chemicals will depend on the solution you use, thickness of AAO, temperature of the solution while etching ect. Personally i have used chromic-phosphoric mix, kinda harsh but removes selectively AAO templates.
Hope this helps you or at least gives you a start.

Dear all: Please assist me with your kind advice on the following:
We have prepared AAO templates in phosphoric acid by two steps anodization. And we have deposited NiZn by electropolishing. Now we are unable to prepare our samples for SEM analysis because when we try to dissolve AAO templates, it causes our NiZn to dissolve. Please advice me how to prepare our sample for SEM. Any method?
use NaOH (0.02M) Solution and place the sample in the solution at 60 C At constant temperature upto 1.5-3Hr. until the colour of your sample become light.it must be given you good result of SEM. if it dissolve again decrease the molarity and similarly if its colour not light increase the temperature and check time by time until it colour become light.
