The surface of Si/SiO2 can be chemically modified to enchance the output performance of triboelectric nanogenerator

1. Elastomers like polyarylonitrile are used to protect the polished Si-discs used in electronics.

2. If the protective layer is absent - because of surface oxidaton SiO2 is formed.

3. SiO2 layer contains SiOH - silanol groups which maximal concentration can reach 4 SiOH per 100 square angstrom on the surface.

4 The mentioned silanol groups can be used to modify the Si surface by using, e.g., Gamma-aminotriethoxysilane, 3-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane etc.
