Hello, HRV is always a difficult topic to explain. I found a paper where they meassure the Respiratory Rate calculated from HRV analysis. I hope you found it usefull.
Calculation of breathing frequency from HRV is not really straigth, mathematically speaking and it will be accurate at rest only. We implemented it on CODESNA HRV, you migth want to try here: http://www.codesna.com/en/products/codesna_hrv/
There are several approaches to extracting respiration not from an HRV measurement, but from your underlying signal. Do you have access to the ECG / oximeter / PPG signal from which the HRV is derived?
It is all very personal; breathing frequency will affect HRV and R-R but to see major changes one has to practice specific exercises for a long time and that is also very personal. Sorry but there is literature on it as well as research in Russian language, in English from what I have read is all controversial.
