Air-exposed 99.99% clean Al pallets were cleaned in HCl before placing into TiB2-BN crucible and further into the ultra-high vacuum chamber. The pallets were slowly degassed using a circular beam up to melt. The degassing was made at the emission current 100 mA (and voltage 10kV). During the degassing, the deposition rate was 0.6 A/s. However, during the next deposition process, the evaporation was not observed even at 120 mA and a slight charge was observed in the crucible.

This might be due to growth of surface oxide on the aluminum pallets. If after first deposition the aluminum get contact with atmospheric oxygen and aluminum oxide is observed on surface.
