I prepared NIP(non-imprinting polymer) on a magnetic core, I already saw a white color in the solution which means the polymer was formed, but my problem I am not sure if the polymer grows on magnetic nanoparticles or not?
I collect my particles and washed it several times, I did FT-IR and I saw the polymer peaks, also TG I got a big change in the weight loss, but when I did TEM I could not saw any layer on my particles.
My problem was: How can I know if there was a polymer layer on my particles or not? Any recommendation?
If you saw some peaks in the ir spectrum of your sample related to the polymer that means that you have some of the polymer on the NPs. The layer of the polymer on the surface might be rather thin that you haven't seen it in the TEM image. Perhaps some of the polymer formed inside some of the empty spaces of the magnetic NPs.
As we known ,TEM very suitable for hard particles and only show the polymer layer in the magnitude above 500nm.I think you should be repeat TEM in the bigger range of size.
