I have an ongoing research that uses MP-AES. Relevant studies already investigated that TDS content should not surpass 4%, or else it will clog the nebulizer upon aspiration. However, I can't find studies that show how the TDS content was computed. Are there any tests for this matter? I hope you can help me. Thank you!
Here's a basic workflow:
-Record the mass a TDS evaporating dish.
-For tap samples, measure 1 L of sample and run sample through a vacuum apparatus containing a 0.45 µm filter.
-Pour 100 mL of filtrate into TDS evaporating dish.
-For raw samples, measure 250 mL of sample and run sample through a
vacuum apparatus containing a 0.45 µm filter.
-Pour 100 mL of filtrate into TDS evaporating dish.
-Record the mass of the TDS dish plus water sample.
-Subtract total minus dish to get mass of water sample.
-Transfer the TDS evaporating dish to an incubator at 180˚C for 24 hrs.
-After 24 hrs incubation, transfer the TDS evaporating dish to the desiccator
to cool down.
-Record the final mass of the TDS evaporating dish.
Calculate TDS with the following formula:
TDS = ((Final mass – Initial mass) x 1000)/Sample volume
Calculate % solids with the following formula:
% solids = (((Final mass - (mass of water sample))/total mass of the solution) x 100

If you have a Conductivity Meter in the lab, you can measure the TDS parameter
I AGREE WITH Prof. TALEB THAT THERE IS NEED TO CALCALCULATE BUT USE A METER.
Lo más preciso es utilizar un condcutimetro , que es un equipo de bajo costo y si esta calibrado puede dar resultados optimos, en el caso de el uso del método de evaporación se requiere del uso de balanzas de alta precisión.
