Are you using implicit schemes so that the timestep is not constrained by stability criteria ?

Usually the timestep is chosen so as to capture the physical phenomenon involved in the simulation. Usually turbulence scale give the timestep.

Are you performing forced motion or aeroelastics simulation ?
