How can I calculate deterioration rate of seed (corn)? Is there a formula? I have data of humidity, temperature, cold test and Germinative power of the seed
Gill anf Delouche describe a set of variables as seedling growth rate, in prectice the plant mass after a fixed time from emergence. The comparison can be done with anova or t test, https://www.jstor.org/stable/23432492?seq=1#page_scan_tab_contents
- Adjust the moisture content of your seed sample to about 20% in the laboratory according to controlled deterioration test (ISTA, 2010).
- Take 10 sub-samples of 100 seeds from your working sample and place them separately in aluminum foil bags and seal them.
- Place the bags in an oven at 40 °C.
- Take a bag out of oven every 2 days, and carry out a germination test in four replicates of 25 seeds at 20-25 °C.
- Use the following equation of linear regression to show changes in seed viability during storage at 40 °C (Ellis and Roberts, 1980):
v = Ki – (1/ σ ) p
where v is probit viability, Ki is the intercept or initial viability, p is storage period, and 1/ σ is the slope which is showing the rate of seed deterioration.
