Higher design education institutions can use design market information to test whether their educational contributions are associated with the design market. Using this information can help them make sure their curriculum reflects market needs.
It always helps to have an "industrial advisory board" for the curricula. In addition, you can invite key people for the industry to view and/or supervise student projects. Some universities mandate that student projects be linked to a company in the field. Seminars is anther tool used.
It´s important the "industrial advisory board" have members from large companies to small ones. I do use on some of my courses method that students goes out and intervies some design managers and CEOs of selected companies. I don´t contact companies by myself but students. They choose a company and organizises meetings by themselves. So they learn to make appointments and get some self esteem.
