The outbreak of nCoV could become a tragedy for humankind in many countries. People with better health literacy have a better ability to manage their health. Therefore, the governments and the healthcare system should work together with other sectors at different levels to develop effective strategies and programs to manage the infection.

Health literacy is essential not only for personal reasons but the whole society gets the benefits.
Well such effort requires administrative level initiative through establishing government or institution based consortiums to develop actions plans for improvement of health literacy. After that, the institutions and government should have budget and resources to allocate for implementation. The assumption here is that government agencies have an allocated emergency budget to spend on such urgencies. Unfortunatey that could be pretty optimistic assumption, and even we have evidence based and effective solutions and action plans, implementation may take a while.

There is no doubt that health literacy plays a critical role in limiting the rapid spread of the virus among people. Morever, the society culture was one of the most important determinant of health in the region where the newly outbreak of the coronavirus happen.
The coronavirus outbreak is another indicator of how important it is to establish health literacy as a critical component of any health related activities. There must be a concerted effort from government, private sector and the community. So far I hear lots of talk about government funding or lack thereof but what is the private sector contributing in terms of corporate responsibility. The chaos that's now developed over the cruise ship, leaders not taking things seriously and sending folks home, only to find out they were infected... This is all a signal if lack of health literacy and politicizing a disaster. We have to educate the masses, bring health literacy efforts to the community, and not just the industry. This means including academic and all other educational institutions, involving community - and faith based organizations and reminding the industries of corporate responsibilities to those that keep them afloat... Social marketing of proper information is critical at this point. Instead of advertising fast food how about advertising "Calm and Care" so everyone understands basic hygiene at every age level as a start. Creating a better understanding of the purpose for and benefit of quarantine where needed, so families do not feel that their human rights are violated. Rather that they are making what may become historic contributions to save mankind... Just my two cents 🌸🙏🏽
