Educational theory and practice attribute specific potential and options for individual support and inclusive learning to digital media, even though these have so far only been utilized to an insufficient extent. This leads to the demand to include digital media - alongside writing, reading and arithmetic - as a fourth cultural and learning technique in all teacher qualifications for (inclusive) school education.
Media development in schools and inclusive school development have striking structural similarities, especially as the focus here is primarily on promoting individual learning. It therefore seems promising to systematically relate implementation strategies for digitalization and inclusion - which are usually separate from one another - to one another: How can digital and inclusive school and classroom development be realized for mutual benefit. The first starting point is educational science concepts of inclusive school and lesson development made possible by digital media. Established approaches to media development in schools, media didactics, inclusive school development and inclusive didactics form the basis for this.
The peculiar nature of inclusive and digital education can be found in the fact that digitalization and inclusion are (can be) interpreted as school and teaching innovations. Both fields of action involve new types of school and teaching processes and structures, so that the digital and inclusive context (can) mutually require and condition each other. For example, digital tools can be used sensibly to diagnose and document pupils' learning status, learning progress and support opportunities, thus also facilitating collaboration between multidisciplinary educational teams. On a school-cultural level, however, conflicts can be pre-programmed if the (performance) capabilities of individual learning come into tension with the postulates of the 'inclusion-sensitive' school to guarantee the widest possible participation of all pupils in joint learning.
Situated-adaptive, internally differentiated, individualized learning plays a prominent role not only in media education, but also in inclusive education: Digitalization and inclusion combine in terms of lesson development in the didactic-methodological fields of differentiation and individualization. Digital media offer specific characteristics for designing adaptive and personalized learning processes. However, little empirical research has been conducted into how these capacities can be properly incorporated into lessons and sustainably anchored in the basic didactic-methodological concept of teaching and learning.
