Interesting idea to use big data and GIS. For too long the world has been focussing on a one sided approach to this issue that is a macro-level focus. However, we also need measures at the micro-level.Indeed if people on the ground, that is ordinary people cannot sustain a certain level of living over a long period of time then all discussions, projects and measures of sustainability would fall flat amounting simply to a busy set of activities being undertaken by politicians, academics and other international agencies. Development experts and others have forgotten that a chain is as strong as its weakest link. In the context where gender, ethnic, religious, educational inequalities continue to be enforced within a social class structure, what development are we referring to and measuring. This is only intended to raise our consciousness (according to Paulo Friere, Pierre Bourdieu, Polanyi and other postcolonial writers) about what we are doing.
