The best practice to check whether the research is genuine/authentic is exploring the google scholar with the keywords of your research. Set the time boundary so that you can learn about the latest contribution in that domain. Initially, it takes time. But, eventually, it will help you developing profound insight into your research.

You can also do a search in citation databases (e.g. Web of Science or Scopus) by using different keywords on your interested topic.
