How can a ceramic substrate be preheated in-situ in Plasma Arc Spray coating? Infra red? Microwave? Plasma without powder feed?
The bonding of the metal to the ceramic substrate is believed to increase if the substrate is preheated. One way is to heat the substrate in a furnace and transfer it to the plasma spray coating unit. But it cools down quickly. Can we heat before coating while the substrate continues to be in the same fixture for heating as well as for coating?
Hi Balakrishna, it depends a little on how hot your preheating needs to be. I assume you are unable to simply heat the back plate of where your ceramic substrate is located?
The easiest method is would be to use some form of radiative heater, either a simple quartz halogen flood lamp type arrangement of a ceramic radiative heater such as:
