Composition: 1.2%C-17%Mn
Ferroalloys: medium and high carbon ferromanganese and in some cases ferrochrome.
Additive (for degassing): 0.2% Ti plus Al plus Ferrosilicomagnesium (FeSiMg).
Charged materials: 60% manganese scrap+20 to 30% plain carbon steel scrap and Ferroalloys + 10 to 20% foundry returns

Control the flow kinetics during mould filling.
If you eliminate the bubbles and bifilms during filling you will see the difference in quality.

We cast several tons of Hadfield steel each month without gas porosities. The problem of bubbles in casting can be: Nitrogen or Hydrogen. We are working with an 6 tons basic arc furnace and after oxygen blowing these 2 gas are very low. Have you an arc or induction furnace ? Are bubbles only on top or bottom casting?

Dear Joel Many thanks for your quick reply. The company working with induction furnace (5 tons) and has produced different casting part (Mn steel) during past 20 years without any problem. But, recently, this problem (gas porosity near the surface) has been observed. So, some attempts was done to reduce the porosities such as Ti and FeSiMg addition (about 0.2%wt). Results was good but addition of additive rise the cost. I think, type of FeMn ferroalloy (which provided by the various supplier) can be important. what is your idea?
