The EPA anticipates that by 2030, about 30 percent of the nation's energy mix will come from coal (down from about 37 percent) and 30 percent from natural gas
My county (Iran), is a country with large reserves of nonrenewable energy resources and only one percent of energy production in Iran comes from renewable sources of energy. However, with considering this issue, we don’t have any rule to reduce GHG emissions of generation energy from non-renewable energy resources. But, our government funds for producing the energy from renewable sources of energy. which one is better to reduce GHG emissions? Subside or rule?
In most of the countries, the introduction and further expansion of the use of most of the renewable energy sources available in the world need to be subsidized by government in order to compete with the use of conventional energy source in the open market. The construction and the generation of electricity using solar energy systems and wind farms are not cheaper and in many countries cannot compete with some of the conventional energy sources. In the case of Iran, the existence of great oil and gas reserves and the necessary infrastructure to exploit and commercialize these conventional energy sources, make them cheaper and attractive that the use of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind energy.

When a country grows, a great lubricant is cheap energy.
It is very hard to send into orbit a "green" rocket ... only when it reached the orbit then uses photovoltaics.
I believe that the greatest problem and present need, is the accumulation of energy.
The industry needs certainty, energy 24hours / 7day, so oil and coal will be reduced but will not disappear quickly, without new discoveries.
A medium size industrial plant in Italy needs 5-10 megaWatts of peak power. ( equal to the peak power of 3.000 houses, a little city of 10.000 inhabitants )
In Italy a parcel of land for a medium size industrial plant, is 10.000-20.000 square meters. (1-2 Ha). 10.000 kWp (10 MWp) needs about 100.000 square meters of Photovoltaic (10 Ha).
