I am modeling counter electrode material for Dye sensitized solar cell. And I just came to know from literature that adsorption energy determine the catalytic activity of the electrode material when we adsorb the iodide from electrolyte on counter electrode surface. But what could be the Reason for that any one guide me in this regards.

The negative iodide ion must be at first move from the electrolyte to the surface of the anode and stick to its surface in order to be able to capture to deliver its electron to the anode and gets neutralized. The transport process of ions in the front of the electrode to the electrode may be an activated process in the sense it requires the the ions overcomes potential barriers at the interface. This explains the over potential required to anode current conduction.
