There are a number of subjects in Finance,in which a teacher can use a mix of theoretical and practical orientation to teach his students in a better way. He can easily use it in subjects like Management of Financial Services as the whole class may be involved through some mode say Mutual Funds. But while teaching a complicated subject like International Finance,there is a lot of difficulty.My question is how a teacher can make it interesting, by adding practical orientation to it.
First you should assess the knowledge of class that with what kind of mentality you are dealing. try to keep the lecture simple with more class participation and discussion. International Finance is very interesting subject. try to keep it simple by giving simple examples relating to your country... so student will understand easily. good luck.

I have made the experience that projects help students understand the topics a lot better. I usually let them work on such projects in groups using spreadsheets. For example, I often use a project workshop from Madura/Fox (International Financial Management) where students should compute the daily changes in an exchange rate between any two major currencies, select the days with the 5 -7 largest percentage changes and then find out via internet and newspapers what might have been the reasons for these changes. This helps them find out reasons for exchange rate fluctuations completely by themselves (e.g. political or economic reasons, natural desasters, wars, etc.) and get an impression about the sign of the effects.
Another project that I let them work on is the Big Mac Index. You can download the raw data from the website of the Economist and let them replicate the results. They learn to convert currencies and generally better understand the law of one price and purchasing power theory. At the end they can double-check the results with the website.
Generally, I try to use as much "real" data as possible to make it interesting and more credible.
