Recently I am doing my research on plant proteomics studies. The interactions between protein and their role in nitrate nutrition is diverse. I would like to know, how all these proteins are given an unique name like, AtNRT1.2; an Arabidopsis root nitrate transporter which is a low affinity transporter protein (LATS). In addition, what are functions of different database/depositories on identifying and categorizing a protein?

Fee free to explain for a new learner of proteomic study and also please share the relevant resources (article links, books, database) to start the plant proteomic study; specifically the 'Nitrate nutrition in plants-root system architecture, transporters role in uptake, distribution and assimilation in plants'
