In the southern part of Italy (Sicily region) there are large amount of salt accumulated in soil due to geogenic conditions. Along the coastal areas where intensive agriculture is widespread water table overexploitation is strong, salts are mobilized and affect plant productivity maybe this article could be of interest for you.
